The dark corridor runs on, illuminated only by the glow of candles. Denis is the first one to voice his doubts.

“That’s weird. The place wasn’t built like this from the outside…”

“It’s probably the demon king’s magic. Thinking about it isn’t gonna tell you which version’s right.”

Isaac is probably correct.

Finally, they come upon another set of double doors. These also open on their own.

The moment they step inside, it’s so bright that they shut their eyes.

The polished marble floor shines under silver chandeliers, reflecting the light. The ceiling, which is so high that they can’t see it unless they crane their necks, is adorned with a glass rose window. They can hear the rain lashing against it. White space stretches away extravagantly to the left and right, and a velvet carpet runs across the room right up to the throne.

It’s a king’s chamber. The space is equal to that in the Ellmeyer’s Empire’s royal castle, and the unique atmosphere makes Aileen stand straighter.

Only Claude is there, seated on the throne. His legs are crossed; he’s resting his chin on one hand, and his long eyelashes are lowered.

“Master Claude. I’ve brought your guests.”

At the sound of Keith’s voice, Claude open his eyes. With that deep-red gaze, like rubies, he peers down at everything.

“So that’s…the demon king,” Isaac murmurs under his breath.

Keith, who’s stolen away from the back of the group, goes to stand at the left of Claude’s throne. Simultaneously, Beelzebuth slips through the glass ceiling, unfurls his wings, and descends to a position on the throne’s right.

The arrangement makes it clear that this is the demon king and his two most trusted advisers.

Oh good. Master Beelzebuth made a fairly normal entrance.

If it’s because Claude restrained him, she’s grateful. Beelzebuth has the same sort of supernatural beauty as Claude, and now she knows that, as long as he’s just standing there silently, he’s terribly imposing.

“There is only one thing I want from you, gentlemen. Do not harm the demons or upset their day-to-day lives.”

Claude, who’s still resting his chin in his hand, sounds skeptical.

“In addition, as we are inside the barrier, I will be clearly aware of nearly everything you do. Unless I consciously watch and listen, I won’t know specifics; conversely, if I decide to, I can do so to an unlimited degree— Keep that in mind. Keith.”

“Yes, yes. You’ll be paid the amounts that Lady Aileen has indicated to you. It won’t be an illusion or anything like that, so rest assured.”

Denis peeks out from behind Isaac. Claude snaps his fingers. Immediately, the alabaster throne vanishes, and the decrepit one Aileen is used to seeing appears.

“Huh? Wha—?”

“Agh, agh, agh, agh, rain! It’s raining!”

“—And now you see. No one wants to get rained on, correct? There are many, many things to repair.”

With another snap of his fingers, Claude returns the room to normal. In other words, he’s just explained that this awesome space was created by magic.
